Basic rules for laptop care
Unfortunately, modern laptops, netbooks and ultrabooks often fail. In 99% cases, the culprits are the users themselves, who did not follow the basic rules of operation. The following series of situations can be identified that force people to seek help from service centers:
- Contact with liquids (tea, juice, beer, wine, etc.);
- Mechanical damage (fall, impact);
- Overheating (failure of north, south bridges or video chips);
- Using an unnatural power supply block;
- Operating system failure.
Almost all of them can be prevented, thereby securing yourself and your nerves. In more detail about how to do this, as well as how to act in a situation when an unpleasant trouble has already happened to you, will be described below.
Mechanical effects
It is necessary to protect complex electrical equipment from mechanical effects. A laptop is a relatively gentle mechanism, and excessive shaking can have a significant negative impact on the quality of its work. Do not place heavy objects on the laptop cover to avoid damaging the nut. It is not recommended to have it near sources of strong vibration (for example, washing machines).
Overheating and cooling
You should protect your laptop from extreme temperatures. If you had to carry the device in the cold, you cannot immediately turn it on in the room: wait until it warms up to room temperature. The reason is simple: in the cold, condensation (moisture) can form inside the laptop and it needs to evaporate before turning it on.
Contact with liquids
Continuing the topic of moisture, it is worth emphasizing that its contact with the laptop is fraught with disastrous consequences. The requirement “not to eat food and drink near the computer” is, of course, quite difficult to implement. But you should still be careful when drinking tea and coffee in front of the laptop. By the way, sweet liquid is especially dangerous for the device – any professional repairman will confirm this. What to do if you spilled liquid on the laptop keyboard, read in our article.

Operating conditions
The mobility of laptops is sometimes a disadvantage for its cooling system and other components, which can cost a lot of money to replace. We do not recommend keeping the laptop on your lap, as the ventilation is located on the bottom. The laptop should work on flat and hard surfaces, otherwise there is a risk of overheating, failure, loss of important data, etc.
Cleaning your laptop
Finally, the laptop should be cleaned of dust and other dirt at least occasionally. Wipe it with a soft cloth (there is even a specially designed napkin for this). General rule: do not use water that can get into the device, and in no case do not use various aggressive liquids such as gasoline, acetone, etc. They are not intended for this at all.

Screen care
Special attention should be paid to the care of the matrix (display). It is most convenient to purchase a special cleaning agent (ScreenClean) and wipes for its application. Such agents not only effectively clean the screens, but also form a protective layer on its surface, protecting it from subsequent contamination. In addition, they often have an antistatic effect, which means that dust on the screen settles much more slowly than usual. As a result, the matrix retains its quality and performance, and you save your own eyesight: working on a dirty monitor creates additional stress for the eyes.
As you can see, the rules for taking care of a laptop are quite simple and there are quite a few of them. But following them can significantly extend its effective functioning.
